Kaur is interested in the notion of social relationships and has developed this theme by documenting her relationship with her partner, Brett.
The artist has focused on the concept of documentation. Recording every contact that has been made between Brett and herself, in ways such as text messages, photography and keeping a journal of dates and times whenever contact was made. But only contact made by him.
The documentation takes on many forms, the first being two books containing images of Brett. The books contain a selection of photographs taken over the past three months. Only a selection of images worked, images where Brett could not be identified.
The layered acetates reflect a period of when the relationship was becoming unstable. The artist has included diary entries/statements which she had noted down while arguing with Brett. Placing these onto acetates and layering the acetates over one another. They start to appear quite sinister due to the nature of the text.
The picture frames contain text messages received from Brett over the past year and these messages are the key elements to the documentation of the relationship. The messages provide a narrative to how Kaur and Brett communicate with each other; showing how they both depend on each other and the trials and tribulations they both encounter with one another. The messages have been exhibited in frames as they are contained and have a precious quality to them; as people place special memories inside them.
